​Storm starts season strong with 78-60 win

(PAINESVILLE, OH) - The Lake Erie College Storm women's basketball team opened the 2017-18 season on Saturday night with a matchup at home against the Tiffin University Dragons in the GMAC/GLIAC Challenge. It was a nice start to the season as the Storm cruised to a 78-60 win at the Osborne Center.

The Storm lead for much of the first half as the charge was led by three seniors Christine Dawson, transfer Lee Lee Barrett and Kayla Gabor. The threesome combined for 21 of Lake Erie's 34 points in the first half.

Lake Erie also led the battle of the boards in the first half with a 21-19 edge. Gabor led all rebounders with seven.

The Gabor and Dawson show continued to start the second half as the pair scored 18 of the Storm's 26 points in the third quarter to give Lake Erie a 60-45 lead when time expired in the third. The Storm dominated the battle of the boards in the third as they out rebounded Tiffin 13-4 in the period. Dawson had seven of the 13 Lake Erie boards to lead the way.

Lake Erie continued to extend their lead in the fourth quarter until they eventually had a 19-point advantage at 70-51 with 5:14 left in the contest.

The Storm had three in double figures in points in the game, led by Gabor who tallied 18, Josie Chaddock had 17 and Dawson finished with 16 points. Dawson along with her 16 points also pulled down 11 rebounds to complete the double double.

The Storm will be in action next on Sunday against the Wayne State Warriors in the second game of the GMAC/GLIAC Challenge. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
