(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and South Bend Cubs closed out their three-game series on Friday night in front of 8,170 fans at Classic Park. The two clubs split the first two games. The Cubs came out on top Friday 8-1 to take the rubber game.
The Cubs struck first off Captains starter Alex Royalty with a run in the first inning and then three more in the third inning before scoring one more and knocking Royalty out of the game after five innings. The Captains entered tonight’s game second in the Midwest League in runs scored with 563, trailing only the Great Lakes Loons who have scored 627. The Loons will be the Captains first round opponent in the playoffs.
The Cubs added another three runs, one in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth all off Captains reliever Luis Araujo.
Casey picked up the win for the Cubs and improves to 5-7 with a 5.13 ERA. Royalty took the loss for Lake County and falls to 5-7 with a 4.42 ERA.
