Tuesday Night at the Wickliffe High School Gymnasium the Fairport Harding Skippers boys’ basketball team came visiting. The Blue Devils were not very good hosts as they
dominated the Skippers 84-40 to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The game was close in the first minutes of the opening quarter when it was tied 3-3 with 6:51 left on the clock. From that point on it was all Blue Devils. As the first quarter came to an end Wickliffe held an eight-point lead at 16-8.

Plagued by turnovers and poor shooting the Skippers saw their deficit increase throughout the second quarter as Blue Devils Junior Anthony Olsen was on fire shooting from the field. The halftime lead was 23 for Wickliffe at 44-21.

As Blue Devils first year coach Marc Lewis commented after the game, the second team that played most of the second team did not have any drop off from the first team that started the game. Lewis was very pleased with and has said it has been a constant theme for the first four games of the season.

As time ran out on the third period the Blue Devils lead had ballooned to 40 at 73-33 as they outscored the Skippers 29-12 in the period.
The fourth period was more of the same as Wickliffe didn’t let up even though they emptied the bench and still outscored Harding 11-7 to make the final margin 44 points.

Olsen led all scorers in the game with 24 points for the Blue Devils. Junior Brendan Petras contributed 11 for Wickliffe and Senior JT Brenneman also put up 10 points in the win. Senior guard Ray Alston led the Skippers with seven points in the defeat. Sophomore Nate Kopp had six points for the Skippers and Senior Chaz Matyja put in four points for the Skippers and helped clean the boards for Harding all night.

The Skippers will be in action next on December 28 at home against the Kirtland Hornets at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Devils will play next against the Berkshire Badgers this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at home.
