On Tuesday night at the Wickliffe High School Gymnasium it was a clash of two CVC teams with 5-2 records as the Blue Devils welcomed in the Cuyahoga Hts. Redskins.  The Blue
Devils came out on top as they took down the Redskins 71-58.

The Redskins jumped out to an early 6-0 lead 1:38 into the first quarter when Junior Kyle Polack hit two threes. The Blue Devils then went on a 7-0 run led by Senior Dallas Zollars who connected on five of the seven points to give Wickliffe the 7-6 lead with 4:23 remaining in the first.

The lead changed four more times in the first quarter as the Blue Devils had the advantage 14-10 when the quarter ended with a three-point buzzer beater by Blue Devils Senior JT Brenneman.

Brenneman continued his hot hand in the second quarter contributing five points in the second as the Blue Devils extended their lead to seventeen with a 38-21 lead at halftime. Brenneman and Zollars led all scorers with eight points each at the half. Meanwhile the Redskins were in a shooting slump and the Blue Devils led by Sophomore Chase Fortkamp, Junior Brenton Petras and Senior Josh Perpar dominated the boards.

The Blue Devils extended their lead in the third quarter to 24 points with :20.9 left in the third when Petras put in a layup. The period ended with the Blue Devils up 52-30 as the Blue Devils held the Redskins under double digits in the third with nine points.

Cuyahoga Hts was not going away as they rallied in the fourth, nearly erasing the Wickliffe lead as they cut the Blue Devils lead to one point at 57-56 with 3:57 remaining in the contest when Redskins Senior Nassiem Salem hit a three pointer. The Blue Devils were able to thwart the comeback with stifling defense by Junior Gianni LaPaglia and Senior Justin Metzger, outscoring the Redskins 14-3 in the 3:56 to pick up the win.

Salem led all scorers with 19 points in the Redskins loss. Junior Anthony Olsen led the Blue Devils in scoring with 13 points, Petras finished second with 11 points, Zollars had nine as well as LaPaglia.

The Blue Devils will be in action next at Kirtland on Friday at 7:00 p.m. against the undefeated Hornets.
